Oscar weekend provided a chance opportunity for SAG-AFTRA leadership and staff to meet with arts representatives from Norway.
SAG-AFTRA leadership and staff met with the Norwegian Minister of Culture and Equality Anette Trettebergstuen on March 28. The meeting was part of the minister’s trip to the United States, and she participated in a special award celebration, the Norwegian Oscars Weekend.
Those in attendance with Trettebergstuen included Norwegian Chief Policy Advisor, Film Lars Petter Øyen and the counsel general Gry Rabe Henriksen. Representatives from SAG-AFTRA included SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Ben Whitehair and Los Angeles Local Executive Director Serena Kung. SAG-AFTRA Vice President, Los Angeles and Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee Chair Michelle Hurd; Chief Governance and Equity & Inclusion Officer Michelle Bennett; and New York Local, Labor Policy and International Affairs Executive Director Rebecca Damon were also present virtually.
The meeting served as an opportunity for the two groups to discuss workplace issues of diversity and gender equality. For Trettebergstuen, whose work in the Norwegian Parliament involves matters related to improving labor conditions and women’s and LGBTQ+ rights, it was a means of understanding the union’s ongoing advocacy work and workplace protections.
