SAG-AFTRA Members Must Choose a Member Category by Dec. 31

You may have heard about Member Categories and wondered if you needed to select one. If you are a SAG-AFTRA member, yes, you do!

We ask members who have not yet chosen a SAG-AFTRA MEMBER CATEGORY to log in now to their online member account and select a category today. First time visitors to SAGAFTRA.org can easily set up a member account by using their SAG-AFTRA member ID.

A member category is one that most closely identifies a SAG-AFTRA member and is used to determine eligibility to serve and vote as a category representative. Each member chooses ONE category from the list of seven below. The selection of a member category does not affect dues and has no impact on a members' ability to work under any SAG-AFTRA agreement. Member categories will only be used internally for union elections and governance purposes.

Choosing a member category now is important for any member who plans to run for elected office in the future: In order to be eligible to serve in a category National Vice President position, members must hold the appropriate category assignment for twelve (12) months prior to the date of nomination. By choosing a category by Dec. 31, 2012,  member category selection will be retroactive to the inception date of SAG-AFTRA. Similar requirements may exist for other elected category representative positions in local constitutions.

IMPORTANT: If members do not choose a category by Dec. 31, 2012, one will be automatically assigned to you.
