SAG-AFTRA Members Rally Outside Spanish Broadcasting System’s Stockholders Meeting

MIAMI (June 10, 2019) – A group of SAG-AFTRA members gathered outside of Spanish Broadcasting System’s Miami headquarters last week during a shareholders meeting to demand fair wage negotiations on behalf of SBS talent who work at their Los Angeles and Chicago radio stations. 
 
SAG-AFTRA is currently fighting for the rights of unionized employees at three SBS radio stations: La Raza (KLAX/KXOL 97.9 FM) and MEGA (96.3 FM) in Los Angeles, and La Ley 107.9 (WLEY-FM) in Chicago. In September 2018, the on-air talent at La Ley 107.9 voted overwhelmingly to form a collective bargaining unit represented by SAG-AFTRA. SBS talent in Los Angeles voted to join SAG-AFTRA in August 2016.
 
“The talent and our team have been very accommodating and patient with SBS throughout this negotiation process, but it has become clear that SBS does not prioritize or care to invest in the talent that has made the company No. 1 in the Spanish-language radio market,” said SAG-AFTRA Miami Local Executive Director Hertha Suarez. “These DJs and other media professionals are not asking for anything more than to be paid fair wages that are reflective of the millions of dollars and listeners that they have brought in the door through their hard work and talent. It is inconceivable that SBS has been dragging their feet on this for the past three years while they continue to generate more and more revenue year after year.”
 
In solidarity, SAG-AFTRA members tweeted messages in support of their peers at the three stations using the hashtag #SOSSBS, with Twitter trends happening in California and nationally early in the morning.

MIAMI (10 de junio, 2019) - La semana pasada, miembros de SAG-AFTRA se reunieron afuera de la sede de Spanish Broadcasting Systems durante la reunión de accionistas para exigir mejores sueldos en nombre del talento de SBS que trabaja en sus estaciones de radio en Los Ángeles y Chicago.
 
Actualmente, SAG-AFTRA está peleando por los derechos de los empleados sindicalizados en tres estaciones de SBS: La Raza (KLAX/KXOL 97.9 FM) y MEGA (96.3 FM) en Los Ángeles, y La Ley 107.9 (WLEY-FM) en Chicago. En septiembre 2018, el talento al aire de La Ley 107.9 votó, de manera abrumadora, a favor de una negociación colectiva representada por SAG-AFTRA. El talento de SBS en Los Ángeles decidió, por medio de votos, unirse a SAG-AFTRA en agosto de 2016.
 
“El talento y nuestro equipo han sido sumamente pacientes con SBS durante este proceso de negociación. Pero, ha quedado claro, que para SBS no es una prioridad, ni tienen interés, de invertir en el talento que ha logrado que la compañía se convierta en la número 1 en el mercado de la radio en español”, dijo Hertha Suarez, Ejecutiva del Local de SAG-AFTRA Miami. “Estos DJs y otros profesionales del medio, lo único que están pidiendo es sueldos justos que reflejen los millones de dólares y la audiencia que han aportado a través de su arduo trabajo y talento. Es inconcebible que SBS lleva tres años arrastrando este proceso, mientras continúa generando más y más ingresos año tras año”.
 
En solidaridad, los miembros de SAG-AFTRA tuitearon mensajes en apoyo a sus compañeros en las tres estaciones utilizando el hashtag #SOSSBS, logrando que la campaña se convirtiera en tendencia en California y a nivel nacional temprano en la mañana.
