SAG-AFTRA Mourns Loss of Former AFTRA Head John C. Hall

SAG-AFTRA mourns the passing of John C. Hall Jr., a former national executive secretary of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, who died Nov. 10. Hall was deeply dedicated to unionism and selflessly gave of his time and energy to promote the wellbeing of performers and media professionals.

Hall succeeded Sanford "Bud" Wolff in 1985 as national executive secretary, a position that later came to be known as national executive director. Hall negotiated AFTRA contracts until 1991, when he retired. That same year, he received the 34th George Heller Memorial Award, a gold union card, in recognition of his hard work through the years.

Early in his career, he worked as a makeup artist for films and then served as a business rep for Makeup and Hairstylist Local 798 and Wardrobe Local 764. To read Local 798’s announcement, click here.

Hall and his wife Sadie were married for more than 50 years, and he enjoyed winemaking and opera. A celebration of his life will be held Nov. 21 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Malachy's The Actors' Chapel at 239 West 49th Street in Manhattan. To attend, RSVP to JohnHallMemorial@actorsfund.org.
