Los Angeles (Oct. 11, 2017) – The SAG-AFTRA National Board met Monday and Tuesday following the union’s four-day biennial convention in Los Angeles. SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris opened the meeting by welcoming the union’s newly elected board members. Said Carteris, “I’m looking forward to working with each of you over the next two years on initiatives that will benefit members throughout the country, impact our organizing efforts and inspire the next generation of leaders within our organization.”

The National Board received reports including:

National Executive Director’s Report
National Executive Director David White gave brief remarks about the national convention and was then joined by Chief Economist David Viviano who reported on a five-year analysis of several key performance metrics, illustrating how the union’s membership and contract earnings have grown following SAG-AFTRA’s inception. 

Finance Report
The board received a finance report from Secretary-Treasurer Jane Austin and Chief Financial Officer Arianna Ozzanto. Austin and Ozzanto reported that fiscal year 2018 first quarter results are on plan and tracking to budget. Ozzanto also highlighted the surplus from the previous year.

Contracts Report
Chief Contracts Officer Ray Rodriguez provided negotiations updates on the following agreements: interactive media, corporate/educational contract extension, animation, public television, commercials as well as the Sound Recordings Code.

Broadcast Contracts
Chief Broadcast Officer Mary Cavallaro provided negotiations updates for the following broadcast contracts: WGRB-FM/WGCI-FM iHeart Radio Chicago and WCAU-TV/WWSI-TV, Philadelphia’s NBC and Telemundo stations.

In other business, the board approved the appointment of chairs to its various committees and trustees to the SAG-AFTRA Motion Picture Players Welfare Fund (MPPWF). The meeting adjourned at 1:14 p.m. PST.
