The Secret Society of Black Creatives organized the annual The Konnect: Diversity in Film event on April 22 at the Bruce C. Bolling Municipal Building in Roxbury, Massachusetts, in the Nubian Square area of Boston. SSBC’s vision is to be a multicultural catalyst for positive action by connecting and amplifying diverse voices in the New England entertainment industry. This event, in particular, aims to create opportunities for connection for those previously without access to the film industry. Over 250 people attended and networked.
The event’s opening session featured presentations by local industry leaders, including SAG-AFTRA New England Local Executive Director Jessica Maher, and was followed by an actors forum workshop, led by Local New England members Naheem Garcia and David J.Curtis and New England Local President Andrea Lyman. The Actors Forum Workshop featured acting warmups, audition techniques and a table read of two pieces.
