Editors don’t like to cut people out of shows and movies. We love actors and [love] to highlight their performances and work.

Jordan Goldman

Editor and Author

Every performer wants to make sure that the line they deliver or scene they’re in makes it to a show’s final cut. And although it’s almost impossible to know if a performance will make the cut post-production, there are ways actors can ensure their footage is usable throughout each stage of the editing process.

This podcast episode revisits the Aug. 31 SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement livestream How to Avoid the Cutting Room Floor. Leading the session was Jordan Goldman, ACE, a veteran television editor and author of How to Avoid the Cutting Room Floor: An Editor’s Advice for On-Camera Actors. Listen to hear more about the role of editors during and following production, and the factors that determine decisions made during the editing process. Goldman also recommends performance-related techniques actors can use to improve their takes and better their chances of making it to the final cut.

This episode is introduced by SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland.
