Improvisation has become an important tool for actors working in today’s industry. Although often associated with comedic acting, commercial, film and television actors can benefit from learning about improvisation acting as well.
This SAG-AFTRA podcast episode revisits the SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement’s livestream Staying Present: Improv for Acting. The livestream first aired on Aug. 3, 2021, and featured students and instructors from the Upright Citizens Brigade, a well-known improvisational theater company.
SAG-AFTRA member and UCB Director of Education Johnny Meeks and UCB instructor Sarah Claspell provide an overview of the “Chicago style” of long-form improv, and common techniques and exercises actors can use to further develop skills in active listening, scene building and character development.
