One of the lessons that people have learned is that fighting new technology is not what brings success. Understanding and adapting to it is the path to success.

Duncan Crabtree-Ireland

SAG-AFTRA Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel

A.I., drones, virtual reality, augmented reality — what does it all mean for performers? The advancement of technology and its impact on the entertainment industry is a highly discussed conversation for SAG-AFTRA and its members. “In order for us as a labor movement to be relevant, we have to be aware of the changes occurring and adapt to them,” says SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris. “If we don’t prepare our workforce, they become obsolete.”

In this episode of the SAG-AFTRA podcast, hosts Carteris and National Executive Director David White investigate the massive Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas including a must-listen interview with Consumer Trade Association Senior Vice President for Government Affairs Michael Petricone. CES, hosted by the Association, is the largest international conference of its kind, and annually showcases the development and improvement of technology by thousands of manufacturers, developers and suppliers from over 160 countries.

From there, SAG-AFTRA Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel Duncan Crabtree-Ireland joins Carteris and White in the studio to discuss how the union is protecting and empowering members in this disruptive era. “One of the lessons that people have learned is that fighting new technology is not what brings success. Understanding and adapting to it is the path to success,” he says.
