I want people to understand all of us are just human beings on this planet and that a lot of our jokes come from personal experiences [and] have a community that knows what [they’ve] been through.

Aida Rodriguez

SAG-AFTRA Member, Actor

Sept. 15 - Oct. 15 marks Hispanic Heritage Month, a celebration of the histories and cultures of Latino Americans in our country. Not only does the month present a moment to reflect on the community’s everyday contributions to society, but the ways their stories and experiences help shape entertainment and media.

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the SAG-AFTRA podcast revisits our special SAG-AFTRA presentation of Fighting Words Q&A with Aida Rodriguez & Ariana DeBose. In this interview, which originally aired in June to commemorate Rodriguez’s first-ever HBO Max comedy special Fighting Words, DeBose talks to her close friend Rodriguez about her unique journey as a comedian and how her identity informs her brand of comedy.

Episode introduction by SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Ben Whitehair.
