Scripted podcasts today are so important for content creators looking for new ways to tell stories. With [MicroPod], it was a way for us to not have to decide if we were working with the union or not. We got to say [to the union], ‘Hey, we want to tell great stories and explore this new platform and have it be an awesome experience.’

Podcasts have not only become a popular form of entertainment on subjects ranging from true crime to pop culture news, but a source of creativity and income for performers. For SAG-AFTRA members who have been interested in either working on a podcast or producing one of their own, the union has created two new podcast agreements: the SAG-AFTRA MicroPod Agreement and the SAG-AFTRA Independent Podcast Agreement.

In this podcast episode, hosts SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Ben Whitehair and National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland talk shop on, well, podcasts. Joining them are guests SAG-AFTRA National Director, Contract Strategic Initiatives & Podcasts Sue-Anne Morrow, and Drew Rausch and Jason Silva, whose new podcast, Macaw, has become the first signatory project under MicroPod. The group discusses the podcast industry’s growth over the last decade, features and benefits of the new agreements, and the ways creatives can take advantage of the untapped potential of podcasts.

More information about the MicroPod and Independent Podcast agreements can be found at sagaftra.org/podcastcontracts.
