Representation and storytelling, especially for young women and girls, is so important because we not only show the current culture, but we also shape culture with the stories we tell.

Knatokie Ford, PhD.

Executive Advisor for the Association of National Advertisers' SeeHer Initiative

SeeHer is an initiative created by the Association of National Advertisers that works to address and improve the representation of girls and young women in media. Since its inception in 2016, SeeHer has partnered with a multitude of organizations, including SAG-AFTRA, and has developed tools and programs to study and combat gender biases in media and advertising.

In this podcast episode, SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris and National Executive Director David White interview SeeHer’s executive advisor, Knatokie Ford, about the movement’s work over the last few years. This insightful conversation covers a multitude of topics, including SeeHer’s development of Gender Equality Measurement, a methodology that helps to identify gender bias, and how onscreen representation helps to further movements for diversity, inclusion and equity in society.
