As a member, it was enlightening to see how strategically [the union] fights on behalf of our members. It was a treat to see how much thought, effort, conversation and research goes into these negotiations.

SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President
On Aug. 8, it was announced that the SAG-AFTRA National Board overwhelmingly approved the tentative 2022 Netflix Agreement, recommending a “yes” vote to the membership. The agreement not only boasts new gains, but is a major victory in the union’s ongoing legislative efforts to address outdated industry practices that stymie opportunities for artists.
SAG-AFTRA Executive Vice President Ben Whitehair and National Executive Director and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland are joined by SAG-AFTRA Chief Contracts Officer Ray Rodriguez and Executive Director, Entertainment Contracts Beth Millman on the podcast to present an overview about the new agreement. The group discusses the negotiation process, as well as the new benefits gained for background actors, English- and Spanish-language dubbing artists and stunt coordinators. In addition, Millman gives an in-depth overview into how the contract’s new exclusivity and options clauses change the nature of work for Netflix series regulars.
The deadline for voting on the Netflix Agreement is Aug. 31. Visit sagaftra.org/netflix2022 for more information and to submit your electronic ballot.
