You can never rest on your laurels.
Jane Fonda
60th Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Recipient
SAG-AFTRA member Jane Fonda’s career is extraordinary, with over 50 credits in film and television. Her body of work spans over six decades and has made her a two-time Academy Award winner and a seven-time Golden Globe winner.
But Fonda’s impact extends beyond the screen. For most of her life, she’s been a tireless advocate for women’s, civil and Indigenous rights, and environmental protection. Her remarkable, genre-spanning career on and offscreen activism represents the very best of what those in the acting profession can aspire to achieve, and it was the union’s honor to mark her journey with its highest accolade, the 60th Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award, during the 31st Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® on Feb. 23, 2025.
The legendary actor and activist sat down with SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher in an Actor to Actor conversation about her remarkable career spanning five decades. Fonda reflects on her early roles, producing groundbreaking films like 9 to 5 (1980), and her recent success with Grace and Frankie (2017–2022). She discusses the challenges of being a woman in Hollywood, her passionate advocacy for women’s rights and climate action, and her insights about her growth as both an artist and an activist.
Introduction by SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland.
