Member leaders highlight and unpack key moments from the 6th Annual Labor Innovation & Technology Summit.
I think that for writers and performers [A.I.] may be viewed as more of an existential threat at the moment … What’s important is that there is open communication and solidarity among union leaders and members when it comes to addressing the issues of A.I., but also [important is] how we approach them through contact negotiations, through legislation and even litigation — and doing it in a way that involves all of us. Our best chance to establish guardrails and protect our members is to work in concert with all of our sister unions and guilds.

In early January, labor leaders worldwide gathered in Las Vegas for the 6th Annual Labor Innovation & Technology Summit. The event, held alongside CES 2025, was co-founded by SAG-AFTRA, the AFL-CIO and the AFL-CIO Technology Institute and is meant to tackle technology’s impact on workers’ rights.
SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland sat down with Executive Vice President Linda Powell, National Innovation and New Technology Committee Chair Nick Fondulis and NINT Committee Vice Chair & A.I. Task Force Committee Chair Woody Schultz to highlight and unpack key moments from the event. A.I. contract negotiations and worker protections, international union solidarity and new communications strategies in the age of TikTok are some of the issues discussed in this insightful episode.
