Looking for a refresher on self-tape audition basics? The latest SAG-AFTRA Podcast episode has got you covered!

Self-tape auditions are [part of the] process to being hired — maybe not [for a current project], but eventually. That’s how we meet you, that’s how we learn about you and remember you when a role is right.

Krista Husar

Casting Director

Self-tape auditions continue to be the norm in film markets across the country. Although self-taping presents numerous advantages and opportunities for performers, many casting directors have noticed performers feel an added pressure to create the “perfect” self-tape.

Throughout the past year, the SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement has broadcast numerous panels about self-taping, and this podcast episode revisits one of the most popular, Casting Directors Dish Self-Tape Tips. The panel, which aired on July 8, featured Casting Society of America Vice President Caroline Liem and CSA members Krista Husar, Tracy “Twinkie” Byrd and Jenny Jue. They discussed helpful tips for recording and submitting self-tapes and common misconceptions performers have about how to make their auditions stand out.
