Everybody I can think of came at [voiceover acting] in a different way, with different levels of experience or training or schooling — or not. … [T]here’s not just one way to arrive at it, and that’s an important realization.

Dee Bradley Baker

veteran voiceover actor

Voiceover actors have the ability to bring characters — or even whole worlds — to life, but it’s hard for the average television viewer or game player to imagine what truly goes into creating and perfecting a range of personas. After all, voiceover actors make cartoony voices, snarls and high-intensity fights seem easy.

In this episode of the SAG-AFTRA podcast, seasoned voice actors Dee Bradley Baker and Sarah Elmaleh talk about their craft. Together with hosts SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris and National Executive Director David White, Baker and Elmaleh discuss the work involved in a voiceover performance, the current expansion of voice acting across the television, film and game genres, and the best practices voice actors can employ to protect themselves both inside and outside the booth.
