Members join the push for federal regulation of artificial intelligence.

Broadly speaking, [no one] has a federal right to control the use of their image or likeness. While there are sometimes state laws that give those protections, not every state has them — and even where they do exist, a lot of times, there are significant limitations … We really do need some sort of consistent federal protection for individuals’ rights.

Duncan Crabtree-Ireland

SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator

Artificial intelligence has been making news and sparking spirited debates across the nation and globe. But with its proliferation across entertainment and media, SAG-AFTRA members are increasingly becoming more involved in the push for legal and federation protections against the use of their likenesses and work.

This episode gives an update about the ongoing work to protect the creative community from A.I. In addition to outlining SAG-AFTRA’s latest initiatives, SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland discusses two SAG-AFTRA members, actor Scarlett Johansson, who has accused an A.I. company of imitating her voice without her permission, and singer-songwriter FKA twigs, who advocates for legal safeguards against companies’ more exploitative practices, and the impact these legislative acts would have if passed.
