The forum gathered union leaders to examine artificial intelligence’s effects in the workplace.

SAG-AFTRA Chief Labor Policy Officer & New York Local Executive Director Rebecca Damon was a presenter at a forum hosted by the New York Committee for Occupational Safety and Health on Dec. 11.

Damon’s presentation, Artificial Intelligence: Worker Friend or Foe?, discussed the impact of A.I. as a workplace health and safety issue. In addition to discussing its effects on SAG-AFTRA members, the presentation offered insight into the union’s work to address emerging conflicts directly.

The panel also included CUNY–Lehman College Deputy Project Director & Adjunct Assistant Professor Iain Coggins; AFL-CIO Tech Institute Innovation Policy & Program Manager Crystal Weise; Carnegie Mellon University Assistant Professor, Human-Computer Interaction Institute Sarah Fox; and former U.S. Department of Labor Deputy Assistant Secretary for Pandemic and Emergency Response, Occupational Safety and Health Administration Joseph “Chip” Hughes.

A Q&A session took place following the presentation.

NYCOSH is an affiliate of the New York City Central Labor Council focused on widespread workplace health and safety through training, education and advocacy work.
