On Jan. 7, SAG-AFTRA members joined the Atlantic Theater backstage workers for their rally for a fair contract in Chelsea. In February of 2024, production workers at the Atlantic voted nearly unanimously in favor of unionizing with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). Negotiations have since stalled.
The rally included speeches from IATSE International President Matthew Loeb, New York State AFL-CIO President Mario Cilento; New York City Central Labor Council President Vincent Alvarez; and SAG-AFTRA New York Local President Ezra Knight. After the speeches, the attendees marched down 20th Street, concluding outside of the Atlantic Theater.
