The award recognizes the union’s defense of the artistic community’s rights over the years.
SAG-AFTRA, the world’s largest actor and media artist union, has been announced as the 2024 recipient of the Premio Especial Award. The announcement was made via press release by the Spanish actors union, Unión de Actores y Actrices, on Feb. 19.
The Premio Especial is awarded to individuals and organizations that reflect spirit and dedication toward the acting profession and community. In the release, the Unión de Actores recognized SAG-AFTRA’s ongoing work, mission and leadership, and praised its efforts during the TV/Theatrical/Streaming Strike in 2023, a “moment of vital importance for audiovisual professionals worldwide.”
"The award is [to be] unquestionably received by SAG-AFTRA … for defending the rights of the artistic community over the years, and especially, for their resilience and strong commitment in one of the key moments of the story of our collective, demonstrating that union is strength,” said the Unión de Actores.
SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director & Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland will receive the award on behalf of SAG-AFTRA at the 32nd Union of Actors and Actresses Awards in Madrid on March 11.
The Unión de Actores y Actrices is the professional and independent union for film, television and theater actors in Spain. It currently has 2,630 members.
