SAG-AFTRA joins with the public in mourning the deaths of legendary actors Peter O’Toole and Joan Fontaine.
O’Toole left a legacy of stage and film roles, including his most famous and beloved in Lawrence of Arabia. A multiple-award nominee and winner, O’Toole was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor for his lead role in the 2006 film Venus.
Fontaine also started with a career on stage in 1935 and remained active in acting until 1994. She will fondly be remembered for her Oscar-winning role in Alfred Hitchcock’s Suspicion, starring alongside Cary Grant.
The union also honors the memory of actor Audrey Totter, who served on the SAG national board from 1949-1952, as well as Tom Laughlin, best known for the Billy Jack series of films, which he co-produced and starred.
