Long-time KING-TV news anchor and multi-Emmy Award-winning SAG-AFTRA broadcaster Jean Enersen is stepping down from the head anchor position she has held at the station for 42 years.
The official announcement, posted on the station’s website, lauded Enersen for her 46-year career, making special note of her groundbreaking tenure as the first female local evening news anchor in the country. In addition, she is the longest-serving lead anchor in Seattle television news broadcast history.
"The time is right, the team is strong, and the ratings are No. 1,” stated Enersen in announcing her decision to step down.
Although she will no longer be performing anchor duties, the station reported Enersen will continue as the HealthLinks reporter, while maintaining her ties to the newsroom with other special projects. Her last official day as anchor is Friday, June 13.
"This decision won’t come as a surprise to those who know me well,” Enersen said on the website. “I’ve been passionate about health for a long time. Not just mine, but the health of my family and our community.”
In addition, Enersen stated she will also continue to serve the greater community in her numerous volunteer and advisory capacities.
Enersen began working at KING-TV in 1968, shortly after graduation from Stanford University where she earned a double Master’s Degree in Political Science and Documentary Filmmaking and was appointed evening news anchor at the station in 1972.
