The International Federation of Actors Executive Committee met in Istanbul, Turkey, from Sept. 27–30. SAG-AFTRA, as a prominent affiliate of the organization, which goes by the abbreviation FIA, was well represented at the meeting, which brought together performers unions from around the world.
A major focus of discussion was the SAG-AFTRA strike against the AMPTP for a fair film and TV contract. The FIA Executive Committee unanimously passed a resolution firmly supporting SAG-AFTRA members fighting for better terms. The resolution, endorsed on behalf of FIA’s 90 member unions, declares solidarity with SAG-AFTRA’s fight against corporate greed and the undermining of human creativity. It calls on FIA affiliates globally to deter struck companies from circumventing the strike by hiring foreign talent. The meeting also included productive discussions on best practices surrounding self-taping and intimacy coordination on sets.
SAG-AFTRA will continue working with its FIA partners to address issues fundamental to all performers through collective bargaining and advocacy for stronger rights and protections.
