SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local hosted a Friendsgiving event organized by National Secretary-Treasurer and Los Angeles Local Board member Joely Fisher alongside Project Angel Food on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. This was a time for the dedicated volunteers of the strike to gather around the table and enjoy a meal together.
Fisher said, “The holidays are sometimes tough under normal circumstances … this year put such a strain on all of us mentally, emotionally, financially. The people who volunteered in any capacity during negotiations and the strike carried the weight of this most. I felt, and still feel, that this family and community that was forged deserves respect and care and perhaps also maintenance. Friendsgiving was just the start of leadership in Los Angeles keeping the band together.”
Those present were also able to talk with members of the Los Angeles Local Board, members of the Negotiating Committee and National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland. After a delicious meal, SAG-AFTRA members broke out into dance on the historic Hollywood United Methodist Church gymnasium floor, the site of many iconic films.
