The Los Angeles-based News & Broadcast staff is off to a great year serving SoCal broadcasters. Already, in 2018, it negotiated and achieved ratification of two three-year broadcast contracts, one for KPCC 89.3 and the other for KTLA5. KPCC’s deal included significant increases to minimum scales of no less than 8 percent, along with guaranteed increases, higher employer contribution to health plan premiums on behalf of employees with families, and other important gains in terms and conditions. For KTLA, it was important for this group to see changes in severance to part-timers, language focused on journalistic integrity, and increases to all minimums and scales. Los Angeles News & Broadcast Executive Director Anna Calderón served as chief negotiator. In addition, a one-year extension to the current contract was reached, with increases for those working at KNX and KTWV, and a three-year deal with L.A. Theatre Works was accomplished.
