SAG Awards® Honored by the Environmental Media Association

SAG Awards Merits EMA Green Seal for the Eighth Consecutive Year

LOS ANGELES (October 24, 2016) – In recognition of its creative environmental efforts, the Screen Actors Guild Awards® has been honored for the eighth consecutive year with the Environmental Media Association(EMA)’s Green Seal. Presented at the 26th Annual EMA Awards on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016 at Warner Bros. Studios, the accolade recognizes the outstanding green initiatives of the 22nd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards®. The SAG Awards® is the only special event to have received the Green Seal for eight consecutive years.

The EMA Green Seal Program 
Created to promote responsible production methods and provide recognition for industry professionals who have made strides by embracing such practice, the Program's criteria provide a practical and comprehensive guide to eco-friendly film, television, award show and gala production. The Program is based on a self-assessment by the production company on how well it complies with the Program criteria developed by EMA.

The SAG Awards helps the future take root 
As part of its commitment to sustainable practices, the 22nd Annual SAG Awards partnered with American Forests to plant 1,250 native trees – one representing each attendee – in fire-damaged areas of the Los Angeles River's source in the Angeles National Forest, supporting the City of Los Angeles and Urban Waters Federal Partnership efforts to revitalize the L.A. River and help ensure a sustainable future.

Additionally, guests at the 22nd Annual SAG Awards ceremony along with the viewing public were invited to add additional trees through a Text-to-Give initiative. By texting FORESTS to 80077, supporters could plant an additional ten trees in the Angeles National Forest for just $10.

A heritage of environmental awareness 
In addition to its record-breaking EMA Green Seal recognition, in 2013, the SAG Awards received EMA's Green Production Award. This honor provided recognition for the SAG Awards amongst its peers for its environmentally progressive operations and ability to surpass its green efforts year after year. The SAG Awards production team is committed to continue sound environmental practices for the 23rd Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, which will be simulcast live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017.
