LOS ANGELES (November 8, 2011)  — Screen Actors Guild has been recognized by Office Depot for its efforts to be environmentally sensitive. The Guild was one of 25 nominees chosen by Office Depot for the Leadership in Greener Purchasing Award from among the thousands of customers it considered. Nominees were chosen based on a history of purchasing “greener” office supplies. An awards ceremony will be held on November 15 in Oakland, Calif.

“The Guild has worked hard to pursue a variety of green initiatives, from paperless dues billing to online voting for the SAG Awards® to recycling and buying more environmentally responsible products. I am so pleased with the way that our staff and members have pulled together to support these efforts and the recognition by Office Depot is very appreciated.” said SAG National Executive Director David White.

“Purchasing reusable products and reducing waste is not only the right thing to do for the planet, but helps save money, which directly benefits our members,” said SAG Chief Financial Officer Arianna Ozzanto. “We will continue to seek new ways to carry out the Guild’s business in the most efficient, greenest way possible.”

“Screen Actors Guild's office support services is well positioned to have a direct, immediate impact on reducing the organization’s footprint,” said Director of Operations Support Services Tim Klassen. “We are proud to be at the forefront of this effort and grateful to Office Depot for this recognition.”

This isn’t the first time SAG has been lauded for its environmental practices. For three years in a row the SAG Awards® has also been honored with the Environmental Media Association’s Green Seal Award.
