The San Francisco-Northern California Local held its second biannual membership meeting in downtown Oakland. About 75 members attended, the largest group in recent history for the local. Special attendees to the meeting were Alex Marqusee, senior legislative analyst for Oakland City Council President Lynette Gibson McElhaney, and Jim MacIlvaine, special events coordinator at the Oakland Film Office, who greeted the members and welcomed them to the East Bay.
Local President Kathryn Howell and National Board member Bob Butler shared information about the great work the national and local elected members as well as staff are doing on their behalf. Howell gave a brief overview on the local’s election results and Butler highlighted a few moments that took place at the recently held SAG-AFTRA Convention. Local Executive Director Sean Taylor gave an update on the local’s successes and acknowledged the hardworking staff.
The meeting ended with a question-and-answer conversation held with casting director Ryan Glorioso led by Howell. Glorioso, who casts roles for the Bay Area-filmed Thirteen Reasons Why, generously answered questions, provided his personal recommendations and gave feedback to inquiring members. The success of the local’s first membership meeting in Oakland will hopefully be the first of many to come.
