A diverse crowd of people gather around a wooden plaque hung on a white column.

The Charlie Holliday Membership Center was dedicated on Sept. 10 at the San Francisco-Northern California Local. It was an intimate gathering of SF-NC Local Board members, including those who worked closely with him and those who studied with him, along with his children, Lori Owen and Perry Tichenor. They reflected on his extensive influence throughout the industry, especially in his beloved Sacramento community and his fierce advocacy for SAG-AFTRA. It was his guidance, mentorship and belief in those around him that encouraged many to become and remain members with sustainable acting careers.

SF-NC Local President Kathryn Howell opened the dedication, crediting Holliday with inspiring her years of union service. Holliday’s dear friend, long-time collaborator and fellow SF-NC Local Board member Don Black, spoke eloquently of Holliday’s ability to lead with kindness. Aaric Qualls, one of his distinguished students, was invited to speak about Holliday’s impact on his burgeoning career. Martin Ayana with California Film Foundation, Sacramento Film Festival and Pacific Coast Television regaled those gathered with stories of Holliday’s extensive career, which was followed by a showing of his impressive reel.

Shortly thereafter, all gathered to officially dedicate the SF-NC Local meeting area located at 350 Sansome on the eighth floor in Charlie Holliday’s name. The plaque in his honor aptly reflects his impact with a photo that best captures his unforgettable smile, reading:

A proud member leader, Charlie served numerous terms on the San Francisco-Northern California Local Board, chaired and served on local and national committees, and offered educational workshops and classes.

He was a mentor to the local film and acting community, and had a special talent for helping make students not just better actors but better people.

“The work begins.”
