An Organizing Director with UNITE HERE Local 8 in Seattle since 2020, Sarah joined UNITE HERE in 2005 in Los Angeles and has built the union in Arizona, Texas and DC/Virginia. This fall, Sarah led the organizing of workers in three hotels in Seattle who were part of a nationally-coordinated contract fight and where the Seattle workers took the first strikes in the local’s history in at least 40 years. As a result of the campaign, workers won historic wage increases and succeeded in pushing back some of the housekeeping workload increases institutionalized by the hotel industry through the pandemic. Housekeeping Room Attendants did actions to push on contract demands and filed class action grievances where the data from the mobile app they are required to use was key to securing substantial victories.
