Through the summer and fall, the Los Angeles Local has stayed busy. Whether on a strike line, learning, or mixing and mingling with other industry professionals, there was something for every member to engage in. Take a look at the various events the Los Angeles Local has been a part of!

This special event on Wednesday, May 22, at SAG-AFTRA Plaza began with a presentation from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, followed by a moderated question-and-answer session.

The L.A. Local Military Committee hosted a mixer for veterans in the entertainment industry alongside American Legion Post 43 at their clubhouse on Thursday, May 23. This event allowed SAG-AFTRA members and other industry professionals from all branches of the military to mingle and network.

The L.A. Local NextGen Committee hosted a mixer on Saturday, June 1, in partnership with NewFilmmakers LA. This private reception was held prior to the kickoff of NewFilmmakers LA’s June film festival highlighting LQBTQ+ storytellers, and allowed SAG-AFTRA members to network with filmmakers.

On June 8, L.A. Local Board members and committee members welcome attendees at the first in-person general membership meeting since 2019. The membership meeting not only hosted a Q&A for members but also a committee expo and celebrated the achievements of this year’s Ralph Morgan Award recipients.

On June 9, L.A. Local members, staff and friends took the streets of Hollywood at the 2024 L.A. Pride Parade.

The L.A. Local SAG-AFTRA Radio Plays Committee held its 32nd performance with radio dramas "Brief Encounter" and "Gunsmoke" at the Autry Museum of the American West on June 26.

On July 2, SAG-AFTRA Vice President, Los Angeles and L.A. Local President Jodi Long delivered testimony in Sacramento at the California Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on AB 1836, a SAG-AFTRA-sponsored bill that would prohibit the nonconsensual digital replication of deceased performers in audiovisual works and sound recordings without the consent of their estate. In September, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the bill into law at a ceremony at SAG-AFTRA Plaza.

California-based SAG-AFTRA members attended the California Federation of Labor Union’s biennial convention July 16–17 in San Diego. Among those present were 14 California member delegates from the Los Angeles, San Francisco-Northern California and San Diego Locals, as well as National Board member and L.A. Government Affairs and Public Policy Co-Chair Sean Astin.

The Los Angeles Local Conservatory held its monthly Actors Evening on Aug. 19 in the James Cagney Boardroom. Panelists shared their insights on career transitions from beginning to act to becoming series regulars.

The Los Angeles Local joined the Labor Day march in Wilmington on Sept. 2. SAG-AFTRA, along with many other Hollywood unions, showed what solidarity means on a holiday celebrating the great accomplishments of union work.

An L.A. Local Women’s Committee roundtable titled “In Her Words” was hosted on Sept. 16 with panelists Amy Aquino, Lisa Vidal, Javicia Leslie, Diana Maria Riva and Lauren “Lolo” Spencer. The event was moderated by Michelle Hurd.

The L.A. Local Conservatory hosted its first in-person Conservatory Intensive since 2019 from Sept. 27–29. The weekend was full of learning with assistance from the Conservatory’s amazing volunteers.

The L.A. Local Military Committee hosts a panel for veteran filmmakers on Oct. 9. Panelists included L.A. Local members, L.A. Film School staff, staff from Veterans in Media & Entertainment, and SAG-AFTRA staff.

L.A. Local members join the Motion Picture and Television Fund for its NextGen fall mixer at Pinstripes in Woodland Hills on Oct 13.
