Los Angeles (July 5, 2006)—The Screen Actors Guild Foundation and the John L. Dales Scholarship Committee today announced that they were awarding $400,000 through the 2006 John L. Dales Scholarship Awards.

One hundred scholarships in the amount of $4,000.00 each were awarded to SAG members and/or their children beginning or continuing their educational journey.

The John L. Dales Scholarship Fund was established in 1973 to honor John L. Dales, who served as Screen Actors Guild Executive Secretary for 37 years, guiding the union from its infancy to the leadership role it has in the industry today. To date, the Fund has awarded over 843 scholarships to SAG members and their children nationwide.

“The SAG Foundation is extremely proud to award $400,000 to SAG members and their children through the John L. Dales Scholarship,” said Executive Director Marcia R. Smith. “The ability to further the education of 100 individuals through these scholarships is yet another way the SAG Foundation is able to make a difference in the community.”

The Screen Actors Guild Foundation is a humanitarian, educational and philanthropic not-for-profit organization, providing program and services to SAG members their families and the broader community through literacy programs that foster civic responsibility.

The 2007 Dales Scholarship application will be available November 1, 2006.
