SCREEN ACTORS GUILD SUPPORTS FILM AND TELEVISION ACTION COMMITTEE (FTAC)

Los Angeles (November 1, 2005) --- Over the past decade, Screen Actors Guild has been examining and actively seeking solutions to combat runaway film and television production that have resulted in the loss of thousands of union member jobs.

At its October 24, 2005 meeting, the Screen Actors Guild national board of directors unanimously approved the following motion:

“That the National Board support the Film and Television Action Committee (FTAC) and its 301(a) petition by adding Screen Actors Guild to the list of names of unions and cities who have already given their support of both FTAC and its 301(a) petition, which asks that the U.S. trade representatives investigate the Canadian subsidies for a possible violation of the trade agreements Canada already signed with the U.S.”

The motion was brought before the national board as the result of a motion passed by the May 16, 2005 Hollywood Division board.

President Alan Rosenberg appointed national board member Gretchen Koerner, also chair of SAG’s National Legislative Committee, as board liaison to FTAC. In an October 27 letter to FTAC representative Tim McHugh informing him of the national board’s motion to support FTAC, Rosenberg stated, “This action clearly demonstrates Screen Actors Guild's continued commitment to keeping film and television production in the United States.”
