Los Angeles (January 9, 2007)—Doug Allen has officially assumed the helm of Screen Actors Guild as its new national executive director and chief negotiator, as of Monday, January 8.
Allen addressed the national staff in Hollywood at a meeting today, stating: “I am very pleased and excited to be the new national executive director and chief negotiator for Screen Actors Guild. I respect the sacrifice, honor and commitment that it takes to be an actor, and I am committed to helping improve the professional and personal lives of actors. I believe the Guild’s most important resource—after its members—is its staff, and I am proud to be the leader of this dedicated team.”
Allen comes to SAG from the NFL Players Association in Washington D.C., where he has served as assistant executive director for almost 20 years. Allen is credited with founding Players Inc., the successful marketing and licensing subsidiary of the NFLPA. He has also served as president of that organization since 1994. The NFLPA represents 1,800 active players and 10,000 retirees, and is affiliated with the AFL-CIO.
Allen earned his Bachelors of Arts Degree at Pennsylvania State University in Labor Studies and Industrial Relations before playing two seasons at linebacker for the Buffalo Bills.
