SAG-AFTRA Seattle Local President Rik Deskin was a guest speaker and panelist at the Spokane International Film Festival on Feb. 2. The festival, which took place Feb. 1–8, was overseen by the Contemporary Arts Alliance of Spokane and showcased feature films, documentaries and shorts. Attendees also had opportunities to speak with filmmakers and performers and attend public events in various locations throughout the city.
Deskin sat in during the U.S. Shorts block of the festival and spoke about the union’s role in the film industry. While discussing ways filmmakers can utilize the new SAG-AFTRA Short Film Project Agreement, he asked the audience to reach out to their legislators in support of state film production incentives. All who attended the showcase obtained a copy of the Theatrical Contracts Digest booklet.
