San Francisco was the host city for the Film Liaisons in California Statewide, or “FLICS,” board meeting on April 25. FLICS’ current president, Upstate California Film Commissioner Sabrina Jurisich, along with San Francisco Film Commission Executive Director Manijeh Fata, planned a true SF experience for fellow film commissioners, scheduling their meeting at the film-friendly Fairmont Hotel.
SAG-AFTRA San Francisco-Northern California Local President Kathryn Howell and Local Assistant Executive Director Dee Dee Escobedo were invited to join the meeting and were included in its itinerary as guest speakers. Presenting the incentive of hiring local members, Howell and Escobedo encouraged film commission offices throughout Northern California to distribute materials developed by local member leaders highlighting the depth of principal, stunt and background talent in the region to prospective productions.
Following the meeting was a tour of the world’s sole manually operated cable car system, lunch at Scoma’s and, to cap off the day’s events, a movie tour provided by local performer Wylie Herman.
FLICS connects filmmakers and content creators with film commissions and offices across California. By working in conjunction with film commission offices such as FLICS, and promoting filming state tax incentives and rebate programs, the SAG-AFTRA SF-NC Local aims to advance the hiring of local talent as an added incentive for productions based in Northern California. Its newly revamped Local Resources page enables signatory producers to request casting notices be distributed to its local membership across the region.
