Washington, D.C. (March 30, 2017) – SAG-AFTRA applauds today’s bipartisan introduction by Reps. Jerry Nadler (D-New York), Marsha Blackburn (R-Tennessee), John Conyers (D-Michigan), Darrell Issa (R-California), Ted Deutch (D-Florida), and Tom Rooney (R-Florida) of the Fair Play Fair Pay Act.
The bill protects music creators by finally closing the loophole that has denied them a performance right for terrestrial radio broadcasts of their music, and ensures that they will be fairly compensated when their music is played on all forms of radio. The bill also recognizes our legacy sound recording artists by requiring, finally, fair payment to them for radio play of sound recordings made prior to 1972. SAG-AFTRA looks forward to strongly supporting this legislation as well as all efforts that pledge fair pay for music creators.
