We need your help to stop the so-called “Right-to-Work” bill from becoming law in Missouri. Statistics show that RTW drives wages down, compromises workers’ safety, reduces health care benefits and increases state’s poverty rates.
RTW is scheduled to take effect on August 28 but the Missouri AFL-CIO has implemented a ballot referendum campaign. This will put the question of whether to retain or overturn the “Right-to-Work” law on the November 2018 mid-term ballot.
If you are a registered Missouri voter, please sign the petition to have the referendum appear on the ballot. You can read the language here but you must sign the ballot form in person. If the minimum number of valid signatures is obtained prior to August 28, RTW will not go into effect, and will be stayed until the November 2018 election.
It is in every SAG-AFTRA members’ interest to sign. States opting for a RTW law force unions to represent workers who do not pay union dues or fees, effectively creating a “freeloader” system.
We have the petition available for signing in the St. Louis office: 911 Washington, Suite 207, or staff can bring it to you to sign where it’s convenient.
Please email Tanya Cella to set up a time at Tanya.Cella@sagaftra.org or call (314) 231-0824.
