Union performer and tax lawyer Sandra Karas returns with new information about filing your 2022 taxes.
The SAG-AFTRA President’s Task Force on Education, Outreach & Engagement presented its Tax Updates for Performers webinar on Feb. 21. Executive Vice President Ben Whitehair hosted the session with guest presenter, SAG-AFTRA New York Local Board member and Actors’ Equity Association Secretary-Treasurer Sandra Karas. In addition to her work as a performer, Karas has worked for 30 years as a lawyer and serves as the director of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
Kara’s presentation focused on outlining changes for the 2023 tax season, including deadlines for filing or applying for an extension, documents needed for filing and answers to frequently asked questions regarding stimulus payments, credits and cryptocurrency. The session also provided viewers with sites for filing taxes for free as well as tips for managing work-related expenses throughout the year.
