Here are a few items discussed at the recent National Board meeting that might be of interest to you.
• The SAG-AFTRA Corporate/Educational and Non-Broadcast Contract, which was to expire on May 1, 2018, has been extended to Oct. 31, 2019.
• The National Board unanimously approved proposals for the Network Code upcoming negotiations, which covers syndicated and non-primetime dramatic programs, daytime serials, promotional announcements, variety shows, quiz games and reality, talk, news, sports and other non-dramatic programs. It expires on June 30, 2018.
• President Gabrielle Carteris reported that there has been an overwhelmingly positive response to the union’s Four Pillars of Change Initiative and Code of Conduct on Sexual Harassment, which was released in February. Guideline No. 1 was announced in April to end holding professional meetings in private hotel rooms or residences.
• National Executive Director David White pointed out that the media industry is changing at a rapid pace. In response to these changes, he emphasized that one of the most important things we can do as a union is be nimble and have a willingness to change and adapt with courage.
We as union members need to be prepared to change along with the industry. I encourage you to stay informed and involved and be brave.
