On Sunday, Feb. 23, Twin Cities Local members and their guests were treated to their own celebration and viewing of the 31st Annual SAG Awards live on Netflix. The viewing party was held for the second time at the Uptown VFW, in a private room with two large viewing screens, a no-host bar, and an all-you-can-eat (and very tasty!) taco bar. The Local SAG Awards Committee even provided scoring sheets of the nominees so attendees could keep track of the winners.
Local President Casey Lewis welcomed everyone prior to the live show kick-off, extending a big thank you to our Local SAG Awards Committee co-chairs, Local Board member Veronica Wayne and member Kirstin Gregerson, for again doing a wonderful job creating the Minnesota version of the awards gala, including having a photographer available so that attendees could share their own “I am an actor” tale with a photo!
Lewis then presented Wayne and Gregerson with their own special awards for their work: the new SAG Awards logo knit hat (the only two in the state of Minnesota) to help with those very cool temps and a black walnut, live edge charcuterie board engraved with the SAG-AFTRA and SAG Awards logos.
Gregerson shared about the evening, “It made me smile seeing everyone mingle from our local Midwest SAG-AFTRA community. I was able to connect with longtime friends and meet some new ones.”
Lewis joked, “I’m glad the show is on Netflix. I can go back and catch what I missed. I was catching up with so many members, I missed most of the show.”
Before the final awards started, Lewis again thanked the VFW for hosting us and providing some delicious food. He also again mentioned our search for more committee members and asked those interested in joining this committee work or who may have questions about the committees to email us at twincities@sagaftra.org.
