"My agent can charge me more than 10% commission."

No, they can’t.

FACT: Union members working union jobs - even in a right-to-work state - cannot be charged more than 10% commission by their agent. If your agent charges you more, call your local union office at the number below.

FACT: No commissions shall be payable on the following, no matter where you live:

  • Living expenses, per diem, wardrobe, props, mileage, etc.
  • Reimbursements
  • Penalty payments (i.e., late pay, meal period violation, forced call, rest period violations, etc.)

FACT: As a general rule, agents only get paid when you get paid. Agents cannot charge you on the side for miscellaneous fees for such services as websites, photography, schools, demo reels, etc.

SAG-AFTRA leaders in Texas realize many myths exist about being a union member in a ‘right-to-work’ state. To bust these myths and arm you with the facts, a Top 10 Myths list has been created. These myth-busting facts also include additional resources to help you steer your career in the right direction.

We believe you will find this information helpful and want you to join us - your fellow members - to grow the union market in our community. To find out how you can be a part of our Texas Leadership Think Tank, please contact Trish Avery at trish.avery@sagaftra.org.
