Hello My Atlanta SAG-AFTRA Family,
On behalf of our union and our local, I hope that you all had a safe, healthy and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend. As both our nation and our union grow through a sea change moment, it was certainly a much different holiday than we have celebrated in the past. Traditionally, this holiday honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. I ask that this year we also honor all the first responders, medical professionals and other essential workers who have lost their lives while fighting this pandemic. And let’s hold in our thoughts and our hearts those still out there fighting the good fight and providing necessary services for us.
We are all in this together. Be assured that your union is here for you, staying connected to you and working for all of us, the members. While the essential business of our union — including residuals processing and contract enforcement — goes on, our negotiating team is working hard for us on the successor agreements to the SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical contracts. The SAG-AFTRA President's Blue Ribbon Commission on Safety is coordinating the best thinking and practices from epidemiologists, labor relations, and industrial sanitation and external safety experts so that we can return to work safely. And, at the very same time, we are coordinating with the other stakeholders in the Industry-Wide Labor-Management Safety Committee Task Force to produce an industrywide approach to health and safety protocols for motion picture, television, and streaming productions during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
You are already aware of the relief efforts launched by our union alongside the SAG-AFTRA Health Plan, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation and SAG-AFTRA Motion Picture Players Welfare Fund. Let me just remind you to check sagaftra.org/covid19 for real-time updates on all issues affecting members and click through to our local’s resource page.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Stay connected.
In solidarity and looking forward,
Clayton Landey
SAG-AFTRA Atlanta Local President
