SAG-AFTRA is taking a bold step.

As you’ve likely heard, SAG-AFTRA is about to go into negotiations on June 7 for our TV/Theatrical Contracts which expire June 30, 2023.

As a member of your negotiating committee, we unanimously voted to ask the SAG-AFTRA National Board for a strike authorization, which they too unanimously approved.

This strike authorization is now being sent out to YOU our members ahead of negotiations with the AMPTP,  the group that represents our employers, major studios, streamers, and production companies in the television, streaming and theatrical industries.

TO BE CLEAR a ‘Yes’ vote won’t initiate a strike.

The industry has changed dramatically and we need a contract that protects you from:

  • Erosion of income and benefit plan contributions due to inflation and the streaming ecosystem
  • Reduced residuals
  • Fast-evolving threats of generative AI
  • Unregulated and burdensome self-taped auditions

I’m personally asking you to vote ‘Yes’ on the strike authorization referendum. We need the full force of our members to let the AMPTP know we mean business and by doing so, this strike authorization will give our negotiators extra leverage at the bargaining table to get the best possible deal.

Should we decide that a strike is necessary, no work stoppage would occur before our contract expires on June 30, 2023.

I am invigorated by the solidarity I’ve already seen from members when the news of this action was announced. — Now is the time to SUPPORT OUR Negotiation Team in their efforts and VOTE YES.

Thank you, I know we can do this TOGETHER.

Moving forward, all good things,
