SAG-AFTRA Utah Members,
First, we want to thank you for your timely response and letter writing campaign last week when HB 78 - Motion Picture Incentives Amendments was heard in committee. As you know we are in the fight of our lives up here on Capitol Hill. And thanks to all of you we hear from the MPAU lobbying team things are off to a great start!! We had a successful first step making it out of Committee with a favorable recommendation last week. The next step is to move to the House Floor, most likely on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
We need your help in another email writing campaign. This is so important! Multiple comments were made in committee regarding the letters received from constituents and other citizens.
Please include personal statements and anecdotal evidence that explain and support the idea that film work is not temporary or part time, rather it is similar to that of an attorney or therapist or construction worker who works on a single project (or client) and then moves on to another. Letting the legislators know that your job is full-time as you move from project to project is important to explain.
The incentives rebate program makes it possible for more projects, TV shows and films to come to Utah for local, sustainable and high-paying jobs. We want this to continue, even increase, enabling you and your family to stay here at home in Utah.
Please prioritize your letters to legislators in the following manner:
- Constituents - Indicate such in the subject line.
- Personal connections - Be creative. There is personal information listed for each representative at the attached link.
- All others - You can write to each and every legislator as a stakeholder in our industry affected by this legislation.
