Richard Shavzin, SAG-AFTRA Chicago Local 2nd vice president, participates in last year’s program.

The Chicago Federation of Labor, in partnership with Arise Chicago, will be presenting Labor in the Pulpit/on the Bimah/in the Minbar over the Labor Day weekend Sept. 1 and 2.

This 20-year-old program has a long history of connecting labor and faith communities by inviting volunteer members of the labor movement to be guest speakers at congregations and faith organizations throughout Greater Chicago.

Once the volunteer speakers are assigned a congregation, they will receive a speech that they may read from and will have the opportunity to describe their own experiences in the labor movement.

Through this type of outreach and education program, union members demonstrate how working together with religious communities can achieve social and economic justice.

Since its launch in Chicago, thousands of congregations across the country now participate in this program.

Join your fellow SAG-AFTRA performers and sign-up to participate. For more information, please email michael.hartge@uw-mc.org.
