On the evening of Monday, November 5th, members and staff of the newly renamed Washington-Mid Atlantic Local came together for the first time under the merged union of SAG-AFTRA at the Rockville Hilton, in Rockville, Maryland. Members from every corner of the Local attended, including members from North Carolina, Richmond, and Baltimore. After everyone introduced themselves, Executive Director Pat O’Donnell went straight into business, discussing the many changes happening within the Local and around the country under the new union. Members Tyrone Barksdale and Ellie Wang spoke about their time at the National Board Meeting, which they had attended a week before in Los Angeles. Mr. Barksdale, who is also the chair of the Constitution Committee, briefed the meeting on the drafting of our new Local constitution and bylaws, which have been submitted for approval. There were also reports about past events, like the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Maryland Film Industry Coalition Bull Roast Fundraiser, as well as information on upcoming events such as our participation in Toys for Tots (look for details coming next week). Jane Love, Associate Executive Director, gave a Freelance Report on the many productions taking place in our region, especially with the addition of North Carolina. There was also a short Legislative Report, and reports from the Conservatory, the Background Actors’ Committee, the Broadcast Steering Committee, and the Recording Artists and Singers Committee.

This Membership Meeting was very productive and it is always a great way to reconnect with other local members. We thank everyone who attended and encourage people to look for information on the next one in the coming months.
