Record a Selfie

Help protect our union and your fellow SAG-AFTRA members by recording a short video about the importance of standing up for our historic and established jurisdiction.

Tell AEA how you feel in two easy steps:

1. Record a short video (under 45 seconds) of yourself encouraging Actors’ Equity (AEA) to play fair and respect SAG-AFTRA’s jurisdiction. 
2. Post your video on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook using #sagaftramembers and #PlayFairAEA and #WeMakeStreaming. Also tag @sagaftra and @ActorsEquity

Here are some ideas. We suggest picking one point you feel passionate about.

• Jurisdiction is the heart and soul of our union. SAG-AFTRA must protect its jurisdiction, its current members and the past members who fought to establish it. I stand with my union and my fellow SAG-AFTRA members. Play Fair, AEA. 
• SAG-AFTRA’s jurisdiction is clear. SAG-AFTRA covers performances for recorded and broadcast media in all their forms. AEA is trying to undermine that established jurisdiction. It’s not right and it’s not OK. Play Fair, AEA. 
• Hey AEA, SAG-AFTRA wants to help. The union is willing to give you a temporary waiver during this difficult time. You have the latest draft. Why won’t you accept this waiver? Play Fair, AEA. 
• I stand with SAG-AFTRA and I stand with my fellow members. My union is trying to do the right thing during a very difficult time. SAG-AFTRA is willing to grant a temporary waiver during the pandemic. But AEA must recognize our clear and established jurisdiction. Do the right thing and play fair, AEA. 

Quick guidelines:

1. Keep it short. 45 seconds or less works best. 
2. Keep it simple. This doesn’t need to be perfect. Just choose a message you feel passionate about. 
3. Your audience is AEA (Actors’ Equity). Tell AEA leadership how you feel about their decision to undermine your union’s jurisdiction and potentially harm SAG-AFTRA contracts in the future. 

Simple tips for recording:

1. If possible, have someone else film with the camera on the back of the phone. The front-facing (selfie) camera is lower quality but also works.
2. Hold the phone horizontally (wide, not tall) unless you plan to post to Instagram Stories.
3. For your background and clothing, avoid logos, pictures and art that could be copyrighted.
4. Choose a quiet location and stay close to the phone.
5. Face a light source like a window or lamp. Shooting under ceiling lights or the mid-day sun can create strong shadows.
