The New Orleans Local mourns the loss of our iconic colleague. On August 10, we lost a friend and active SAG-AFTRA member Adelle Gautier (“Adella Adella the Storyteller”). She was 73.
A native New Orleanian, her career spanned fifty years in the performing arts. She toured extensively regionally, nationally and internationally sharing her energy charged performance style with audiences of all ages. Adelle held a B.A. from Dillard University, New Orleans, Louisiana and studied film and communications at the University of New Orleans.
Adelle was a dedicated actor, storyteller and performer who gave herself to our entire community. Her IMDb page lists over 25 film and TV roles. When The Game Stands Tall, Law & Order, Repentance, Treme and Queen Sugar are a few of her screen credits.
Members Anthony Bean described Adelle as “bigger than life, surpassing the word diva. She left her imprint and will be sorely missed” and Becki Davis relayed, “She always treated you like a good friend...She fought her cancer and her death took many of us by surprise because she was still the same Adella.” Her daughter, Judge Tiffany Chase shared, “She loved reading her SAG-AFTRA magazines!”
Her family and friends invite everyone who was touched, inspired and enthralled by Adelle to a public viewing at Gallier Hall, 545 St. Charles Avenue today, August 19, from 5-8 p.m. Relatives, friends and members of the community are also invited to attend the “Final Curtain Call for Adella Adella the Storyteller” on Friday, August 20, at her beloved Dillard University, Lawless Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9-10:45 a.m. The service will begin at 11 a.m., Rev. L. Jerome Smith officiating. A private interment at Greenwood Cemetery to follow. Due to current COVID-19 mandates, masks will be required as well as proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours for admittance to the public viewing on August 19 and the service on August 20.
Adelle’s Final Curtain Call will be livestreamed through Boyd Family Funeral Home’s website at anewtraditionbegins.com.
